SAS Institute logo.   Carry out processing and merges together.

When further processing of data (or outputting results to a flat file) is required after a merge, carry out this processing in the same step as the merge rather than a separate step. This saves reading the same data twice, and can save space if this is the final merge before outputting the results to a flat file (where DATA _Null_ should be used).
